Hubbub announces appointment of new CEO
By Trewin Restorick 4th May, 2022
Hubbub is delighted to announce that Alex Robinson, the current Managing Director of Hubbub Enterprise, has today taken over the reins of the award-winning charity Hubbub Foundation as Trewin Restorick steps down from the role, leaving the organisation at the end of June. Alex achieved huge success leading the commercial arm of the charity: creating new revenue streams, driving profits and securing B Corp status.
Alex developed the charity’s iconic Ballot Bin, a ‘nudge’ ashtray to tackle cigarette litter, into a major source of income, with customers in over 35 countries around the world. His team was subsequently awarded the Queen’s Award for Enterprise in the sustainable development category in 2021. He also played a key role in the success of the Plastic Fishing initiative which launched the world’s first 99% recycled plastic boats which have now taken over 4,000 people plastic fishing in London’s Docklands alone.
As Director of the Hubbub Foundation, a role which ran parallel to his work for Enterprise, Alex has been responsible for leading Hubbub’s relationship with Co-op, one of the charity’s biggest funders, a partnership that will enable the Community Fridge Network to increase to 500 Community Fridges.
Alex chose to focus on his passion for environmental issues and social enterprise in 2016, following a successful career in the music industry, both as a label manager and as managing director of a consultancy. Hubbub is known for its playful, positive campaigns that inspire ways of living that are good for the environment. This summer, Alex’s new role will include overseeing initiatives tackling the most pressing environmental challenges including e-waste, fashion, food waste and sustainable eating.
Trewin Restorick will leave the charity eight years after founding it in 2014 with directors Gavin Ellis and Heather Poore, who remain in key director roles. An entrepreneur at heart, Trewin plans to start a new organisation which will help add to the impact of Hubbub, opening new opportunities for the charity to develop whilst also pushing boundaries to accelerate the changes needed to address the environmental and social challenges we face.
