Hubbub announces appointment of a new Chair
By Trewin Restorick 16th November, 2021
Hubbub is delighted to announce that Catherine Brown has been appointed as the new Chair of Trustees. She is replacing Viki Cooke who is stepping down after eight years, during which time the charity has grown from a small start-up to being awarded Charity of the Year in 2020.
Bringing a wealth of experience
Catherine, who was previously the Chief Executive of the Foods Standards Agency, brings a wealth of board experience as well as a deep understanding of the way that Hubbub operates.
Catherine, on her appointment
On behalf of everybody at Hubbub, Catherine passed on her thanks for the incredible work of Viki Cooke which has enabled the charity to become established and grow. Viki will stay involved as a Hubbub Ambassador.
Viki, on her time as Chair
Catherine takes on the position at a time when the need for rapid and transformative action to address significant environmental challenges has never been more apparent. Hubbub’s role will be to create campaigns that make environmental action desirable seeking to disrupt the status quo by raising awareness, nudging behaviour and reshaping systems.
Bringing to life Hubbub in 2022
In the year ahead key ambitions will be:
- To rapidly expand the network of over 200 Community Fridges. This award-winning campaign freely redistributes perishable food that would have been wasted.
- To make unused smart phones and data freely available to 10,000 people who are currently digitally isolated helping to cut e-waste and provide a lifeline to people needing support.
- To fight all forms of plastic pollution using drones and AI to cut littering, pioneering new approaches to promote reuse and expanding our extensive recycling campaigns.
- To support communities in the fight against climate change including bringing nature to the heart of our cities, encouraging changes in diets, boosting active travel and promoting the efficient use of energy in our homes.
Hubbub will continue to collaborate with a wide range of organisations openly sharing results which will encourage others to learn from our mistakes and replicate successes.
